Building Energy-Saving Homes

Double L Builders is a proud builder of ENERGY STAR® labeled homes in the Raleigh-Wake County area of North Carolina, including our newest homes in Wake Forest.
ENERGY STAR was created to help consumers easily identify products and homes that save energy and money, and help protect the environment. As the government-backed, trusted symbol for energy efficiency, the ENERGY STAR label identifies highly efficient products and designates superior energy performance in homes and buildings.
Benefits of Energy-Efficient Homes
Many ENERGY STAR qualified new homes feature tighter construction that can improve the energy efficiency, air quality, and comfort of your home by eliminating unwanted drafts including:
- Improved Comfort - reduces drafts, noise, and moisture.
- Improved Indoor Air Quality - keeps dust, pollen, car exhaust, and insects out of the home.
- Lower Costs - reduces escape of conditioned air.
Our use of energy-efficient lighting and appliances as well as features designed to improve indoor air quality means your new home will have a lower energy demand and reduced air pollution.
Highest Quality Materials and Building Practices
Double L Builders builds homes with sealed and conditioned crawlspaces. North Carolina can experience fluctuating weather patterns that affect home energy use. In building energy-efficient homes, Double L Builders uses various tools to seal cracks and gaps in framing along with hundreds of holes for plumbing, mechanical equipment, and electrical wiring. Air sealing the house's crawlspace combined with proper ventilation can reduce your energy bills and eliminate unwanted drafts and pollutants, improving the quality of your indoor air.
A closed crawlspace reduces the possibility of mold and mildew, increases the life of ductwork, and also reduces shrinkage and swelling of hardwood floors. Double L Builders began building our homes without standard crawlspace vents after attending several seminars and doing a great deal of research. More and more builders are beginning to use this method since it has been proven that the old advice of opening and closing crawlspace vents in the summer causes extreme problems with mold and mildew due to North Carolina’s high humidity levels.
It is our understanding that North Carolina building codes are likely to be changed within the next five or so years to eliminate vented crawlspaces altogether. There are several methods of doing this, but they all involve proper drainage. Double L Builders incorporates both exterior and interior foundation drains, careful crawlspace leveling and covering, and either a small exhaust fan or return to keep a small amount of air circulating for added protection.
In addition, we use only the best insulation available for your home's interior - Johns Manville’s “Spider” insulation.
